College Success Strategies is a four-credit-hour course required for all degree-seeking students. The course is designed to assist you with determining your learning styles preferences, instructors’ teaching styles, and how you can achieve even when your learning style is different from the instructor’s teaching style. It covers note-taking skills, effectively using the SCTD student portal and e-mail, time management, services available to you if you need help, SCTD policies and procedures, listening skills, reading skills, goal setting, and so much more.

College Success Strategies is offered in two formats. You may take the class on-line or on-site. The content and timeline for completion will be the same no matter which format you choose. On-line classes begin at the start of a quarter and must be completed by the end of the same quarter. If you decide to take the on-line course, you will have the option of attending an on-site orientation to get started. For the on-line class, you will need a computer with internet access and the course packet / textbook. The on-line class has the advantage of allowing you to work on the course without coming to campus while you will still have an instructor guiding you and evaluating your progress. You will have an additional tech fee for the course taken on-line. The on-site course will be classroom-based and held on campus.

If you have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on other college work (at least nine credit hours) you may request a waiver for the class.

So that we can schedule you for the course format you prefer, please complete this form and return it to your Admissions Officer.
